what 's the symptoms?
A lot of times they don't cost much to fix. I have fixed several. Most of them are a bad coupling between the motor and the basket.

It may be a bit of a drive for you, but... There is a place in Pulaski called ReStore. They are like a thrift shop fore home improvment goods, and usually have used appliances cheap! A friend of mine picked up a decent dishwasher for $15!
They recently moved from c-burg to pulaski, and I haven't been in the new store so I don't know what they have.
I just googeled them and found one in the Roanoke area as well, here is some info:

Thanks for your help guys, but a guy i e-mailed from C-list finally got back to me. I picked up a good whirlpool yesterday. Funny thing was when I got it home and hooked it up it wouldn't start. I had checked it out @ the dude's house ( he left it hooked up for that reason ) and it worked fine. I was like WHAT THE HECK? My wife was gettin ready to start cussing and everything. Then I opened up the valves on the water lines....TADAW! Here's your sign
