Scrambler looks great! I've also loved the CJ-8's. and the proportions on yours look about perfect IMO. How do you like your Yokohamas by the way? I'm considering those in the same size as soon as I wrap up my RE long arm that I'm in the process of installing on my TJ. Also, did you buy them locally?

Rick I'm picking up a Howell TBI kit for the Scrambler as soon as tax $ gets here. Will do a full right up on install as well u- joint replacement and hub rebuild.
You can build your own out of JY 4.3 chevy parts. This is what I had planned until I found a good deal on new Howell kit. More info on the web ,found a good write up on it a while ago will post a link as soon as I can.
The Yoko's are actually pretty good! Great in the rocks, good on the street only complaint so far is side walls could be a lil thicker. Poked hole in one at Crozet but in there defense it was a ptretty darn sharp rock.
If you wanna come by and check out aka (drool ) as you put it over the Scrambler Ruckered give me a call man. LOL

OK time to rethink old Stretch.
I have had a blast with this thing and it will definately be a vehicle that will always be in the family.
Heres the problem though . . . after trading the XJ for my tow rig, both of my rigs are only 2 seaters.:(
Me + Kay + 2 kids you get my point.
So I'm going 4 seater.:yup:
What I have: fold and tumble rear seat from a YJ.
What I need: full soft top or hard top, rear seat belts, neoprene seat covers to make the seats match, gonna have to build a tire carrier for the spare now. No room in bed for rear seat and spare tire.
Thinking about modifying an LJ sport cage to fit my needs. Dont want to build a cage for it. I need this to be reversible when the time comes.
Got a line on a ACME full hard top in C-ville will go take a look this weekend.
Thoughts, ideas , and parts are welcome.

Are you buying Chris's old cage?
Also there is room for the seat and tire as long as the tire stands upright. My tire carrier will be for sale. I'll cut the mounts off the bumper so all you'll have to do is straighten out the bend that I have on it for the xj rear hatch and weld it on. I need it on there until Labor Day then it will be available. Has your bolt pattern on the mount as well.

Sean have you seen the Extreme 4x4 show about the Scrambler they built? I think they used a CJ7 hardtop and it left a little bed that you could stand the tire up in.

Yep I saw the Scrambler build on Extreme. Still pissed I couldnt make it to the Scrambler nationals they unveiled and wheeled it at the nats in AR about 2 months ago.
The hard top i found belonged to fellow Scrambler owner that unfortunately had to sell his rig. Might be the same guy, shoot me the # and I will check.
Matt thanks for the offer but if Chris hasnt sold his tire carrier I'm buying his old one. I never really was a fan of them they obstruct vision bad! But I need room for the dog to man!LOL
I need all of the mods to be reversible. When budget allows for me to build another rig I will be returning the 8 back to a half cab.
After some digging I decided on this for the sport cage.

James at Rock Hard 4x4 is a great guy and he is offering me a nice discount.
I like the fact it isnt an eye sore and is removable.
Looks like I'm getting a full soft top as well. 4wd hardware has a heck of a deal going right now.
Finally got the $ for the FI kit, will be using a Howell TBI kit just like the one on Lucky.
Found a good deal on a set of chromoly front axles with larger U-joints as well.
Thinking about a 4.0 head conversion for the 258 as well . . . if I can find the site that had them again. LOL
I will get pics of the progress up as the parts arrive.
Any comments or ideas are welcome. If anyone finds a deal on a TBI kit let me know would ya.:thumb:

Chris yeah I spoke with Jon today actually and am picking it up on my way to Crozet on Friday.:wings: Jon's a good guy, hated to see him sell his 8.
4WD hardware had a killer sale going on tops so I bought a full soft top as well as the neoprene seat covers for the front and rear seats.
By Sat I will be top poor. I already have a half hardtop,a NIB Kayline half soft top,and now a full hard and soft top.:rolleyes-1:
Well at least I have lots of options on tops when the mood strikes.:D
Anybody got a set of black CJ or YJ rear seat belts they wanna part with?

Well soft top not going on till Tuesday. Did fab some covers for the seat belt bolts . . didnt like the exposed bolt looked like poop.
Was thinking about speaker placement, now that my ugly plywood 6x9 boxes are visible and found these.
http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=15517
Liked the cup holder idea and better use of wasted space.
Sound wedges and new front seat belts on the way.
Chris H (wahoojeep) had some really cool wake board speakers mounted to his cage.
Did some digging and found these.

Finally got the soft top installed been a busy 2 weeks. I wont bore you guys to death with the full write up. Only one major SNAFU rear support bar for the top wont clear the rear hoop for the cage. Talked with Rock Hard 4x4 today they have redone the jig for the cage to fit new style soft top. Old one was done with a Kayline/STC top which is no longer in business. Best-top style has a taper at the rear whick looks better and the rear bar doesnt extend beyond the tub when folded down.
They are sending me a new rear cage at no cost. I'm kinda guinea pig on this one so I didnt mind and their customer service is great.:thumb:

Oh god I just drilled holes in my Scrambler . . . again. LOL
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj266/Scrambled1983/Softtopinstall020.jpg
More holes used a transfer punch to get perfect center on the belt rails after clamping them in and measuring a couple times. Yeah I know the garge is a wreck, give me a break I been busy! LOL
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj266/Scrambled1983/Softtopinstall030.jpg
Random note . . . If you havent added a acouple deburring bits to your tool box they are a great investment. Keep in mind they eat metal quick though.
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj266/Scrambled1983/Softtopinstall040.jpg
All hardware on and Houston we have a problem! LOL
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj266/Scrambled1983/Softtopinstall032.jpg
Gave up and pulled rear support for top and got started pulling the rear cage.

I need the Jeep out of the shop to get a couple repair jobs done. So I yanked the rear cage and finished the top install. Overall Im happy with it got alot of door adjustments left to do. I will wait on that till the top sits in the sun for a day or 2 to stretch a bit.

What ya gona do about the roll bar? ya could cut the rear hoop shorter so the top bars slope down towards the back. I might look odd if you have to move it too far forwards.

Kevin all Jeeps look better with the top off.:D
I was gonna just cut the rear bar by about 2" sleeve it and weld it back together. I called rock hard to inform them about the newer style top not being capatable and they offered to send me the new style so I didnt argue. LOL
Talked alot about the other CJ-8 parts they are working on as well.
On a final note my Jeep will be pictuerd in their online advertisement soon.:wings: Nothing set in stone but looks to be the second add the Jeep has been in.:2thumbsup:

That's pretty cool. I have been waiting for Big Red to be featured In Jeep Junkie put i don't know what is going on with that guy. He has been telling me it will be in the next issue since November or December. It is suppose to be a bimonthly magazine but here we are in September and he has only come out with 1 issue all year and that was like March or April. At least he put me in reader's rides i guess.

I have looked into this for some time. From junkyard piece together ideas to Mopar MPI sytem that sounds great but is way pricey!!!
Got lucky with a wheeling buddy from KY that hooked me up with a new in box Howell fuel injection kit for a killer price!
This is the same system I run on "Lucky" . . . and yeah it will run upside down.:rolleyes-1::rotflmao5:
I have had great luck with the Weber carb I run now but I wanted more cold start reliabilty and off camber prowess.
I drive the Scrambler daily and Kay as well . . . when she talks me out of it. It just makes you smile after a bad day.
Anyone who loves their rig will understand.;)
