It will handle Potts. Been through it many times in a CJ5 with 31s and open diffs. This is a work day, so depending on what/where we work, we may not do the entire trail. The media might be joining us on this trip.

If you are uncomfortable taking your rig for any reason let us know and we will find you a seat. All hands are welcome, lots of good things in the works for Pott's coming up. The more we show support the better are chances of getting those things started.

I plan on being there but I coach youth baseball and as of right now I do not know my game schedule so its tentative at best for me, I take my commitment to the kids seriously.
I know that Martin said we need trucks and or trailers to move large amounts of gravel (20 ton) to fill in the old telephone poll bridge that the forestry service is removing. We will have to move the gravel about 1 mile into the trail, the upper portion (easiest part). A dump truck would be awesome if we could get one. I have a trailer but its going to be too wide to get back in there I think (8 1/2') so if any one has a truck and is willing to help move some gravel that would be great.
Justin, I went across Potts in a XJ on 30's and only 3" lift, you will be fine. MikeB (formally known as "clunker") took his 7 through there bone stock on 31's and made me look bad, he cleared the whole trail with no issues. Potts is challenging but with careful driving and knowing when to say "when" and getting a pull is the key to keeping the body from getting trail rash.

My bad, I thought we were going to repair/replace the bridge this trip. I have a 10:30 game so I will be late getting up there. Which end should I come in to meet all of you, bottom or top? And please refresh my memory on how to get to the trail head(s)

I have a rider now, if anyone wants to follow me in, I can meet you at the BK/liberty near Pinkerton Chevy. PM me and I will give you my phone number and we can work out a meeting time that will work.
I will most likely be going "top-down" so that my rider gets to see more of the best parts of the trail.

Or stupid!
It looks worse than it was, I knew it would come out fast and I had good footing and an escape route. Now grabbing the bumper was not the smartest thing I've ever done and I will not do that again under any circumstances. Other than that it was pretty much under control.

...yea, we had a great time. Thanks for the grubb Martin. Those hot-dogs were pretty darn good!
There was not alot of trash out there. Maybe people are getting the idea to pack it in, pack it out.My son (Justin) was a real trooper because he was finding the old trash from back in the day. He found some old Pepsi and Coke glass bottles, old Bud cans with the old style tops. (Dad used to drink those-LOL) I guess it is a good sign that we are keeping the trail clean when the majority of trash is old trash from back in the day.
Wish I had a pic's of Martin's near flip...not sure how it got out of that one. The XJ made the ledge look easy.
Bringing the kids along to experience off-roading the safe and legal way is always a good thing. The field is a great place for them to play and look back at their parents vehicles and long for the day they are doing it also. They will be ambassadors to our sport when we are long gone. It's a good thing we start them out young showing them how much fun it can be and how being responsible on the trail will allow them and their kids a place to wheel for futures to come.
Just one more thing...man, the trail is getting more interesting. Not sure you want to go up there anymore without a winch or at least a couple extra vehicles and lots of straps or chains.A couple of the tuff spots have got tougher.33's on Rubi scrubbed alot.Back in the day I could run my CJ-5 on 31's thru there pretty easy. Now I am feeling the love in the rocks in my lifted TJ.Maybe 35's will make it less bang-bang.If my wife is reading this say yes..hint-hint... :D

35's make the trail feel like a freeway:2thumbsup:
I never hit a slider or skid plate, the diffs cleared everything. I never aired down either but I did disconnect.
Jared the photographer said he was glad to get back into my XJ after riding the trail through the stacks in Chris's YJ. I told him thats the difference in SWB vs. LWB and leafs vs. coils but I don't think he really cared, just liked the ride better.
I had more fun on this trip through Potts than ever before.

The only damage I had was from the turkey hunter in the white F-350 that ran, yes ran me off the road on Potts east just past the Mountain Weather guys house. The "A" hole never slowed down and was laughing about it.

I thought they talked more about the neg impact 4wd's do to the trails than they did about how we try to take care of them. But at least they ran the story and got the message out there that not all of us are "serious mud slingers":rotflmao5: Oh wait,, I guess we are the "serious" ones. ??
At least I can die contented knowing I made the front page of the newspaper, even if I 'm in the back of the pack :harhar:. Matt got the biggest publicity shot!
