heres my build, this is my third jeep in year and a half.. it has a 3" lift with one inch spacers, 1" poly body lift, 8000lb winch, the typ. jeep that everbody that has one of these has.. nothing special right now.. i am getting around to get to build some of my own stuff now.. the sliders are made from 3/16" plate and the bumpers that i make are made from the same.. i did get my corners made and the rear bumper and the tire carrier... a lot more is goin to come as soon as i get time to make stuff.. i do have 5.5 rubi springs coming that im goin to 4 link the rear and maybe three link the front..

nice work on that bumper man. It looks rock solid<

evolution
06-13-2009, 10:57 PM
yeah its tough, made from 3/16" metal and although it looks big and and bulky i made it where its like the jk's bumper mounts.. where they have the flat plate welded on the front of the frame..makes a super easy mounting for a bumper..anyway its only 1 5/8" thick off the front.. and will have winch mounted on it and the steering box skid mounted to the bumper..and under the bumper i have a place to remount my neons back under it..yes i have neons on a jeep. they make great rock lights at nite plus they cool.. lol

xjmudman96
06-14-2009, 09:46 AM
Neons? Actually that sounds really cool. :thumb: I really like the bumper, to buy one simular for an xj it's like 6-8 hundred bucks:sSc_eek2:!!

evolution
06-14-2009, 11:50 AM
yeah i like them, but some buddies make fun of them..had a few choice words for them..can say.. but they show off all the other side off the jeep when you need to work on it at nite and its not in your eyes like off road lights..and the reason i put them on is for rock lights when im wheelin at nite.. but the bumper, for one like this one i charge some where 350 to 400 painted and installed...but this one has a lot on it...when i make one for someone i tell them to find one they like to have and i build it close to what it is.. but stonger...i made one like the big bull bars for full size trucks for a ranger a week ago.. it turned out really good..i may get mine powercoated once i get my jeep done.. it will be black for now thou..

thanks....the bender that im using right now is at the shop i work at, its a eicolina tube bender.. its about a 10 grand machine.. as soon as i save my pennies im goin to get a tube shark.. the one i want its 5200 with the dies i want.. i have the bumper welded, painted and back on the jeep with the winch but i goin to do so waterjetting this week on the stingers tie in pcs on the top.. make a maltese cross cut out and put them in the centers of the stingers and i have a plate on the bottom i still havet to make.. the license plate sucks!!!! but it will wrap with the bumper bc. if i dont to it now it will be done later... and still havet to get some running lights to install in the ends of the bumper...

Are you still putting a 44 in front and rear? Are the chromos just to get you by until that's finished?

And you need to get up here and get that belly pan measured soon! Actually, I need to get up there soon and see my family (lived here 5 years and have yet to drive up and see them). If that happens soon, I'll throw the belly-up in the back and give you a call.

Be sure to use a digital flasher with the lights if you dont already have one. Without it your turn signals are gonna look like strobe lights.:sSc_eek2:
Easy plug and play swap for most older rigs, TJ might require a lil mod to whats there if I remember right.

aint got to work on it for a while, but i was able to get a lot done today in 3 hours of work...

axle truss welded on and put the axle back under the jeep and squared it up and was able to get the upper 4link bars tacked into place.. took and ran it thru the twist, turns and tucked in as far as i could take it and the truss never touched..

i also was able to get the tranny belly up pan into place to see where i need to run some gussets on it..

i also changed my mind on the front 3link.. got to thinking if i cut up the 30 front mounts off then come this winter when i put the 44 under it i wont be able to sell it because all of the are gone.. 30 front with 4:11s go for 300 plus.. so im goin with the design just like rubicon express long arm.. plus saves me some time.....

The flex, fit ,and finish on this build is impressive! Chris look into longer front brake lines ,your real close to the limit with the front flexed out. Text me Tuesday and i wil have the info on the rubber sheeting we talked about to put between the body and the armor.

You still need price on getting the drive shaft redone?

Jeep looked awesome man, for Driveshaft work, I'd check out Slim at Driveline Fabrications in Boonesmill/Franklin Co, or Ted at Fleetpride. Slim did the shortening on mine in the wrangler, and Ted has done several for my antique cars.

Are you staying with the 35's for now Chris? Aside from going through the brakes,an axle rebuild kit, and a locker I wouldnt do much else till you step up to the 37's. Then look into a set of chromoly shafts. There's a few reasonably priced disk brake kits out there for the 9" as well if you decide you need it. Hadfield has a cool yoke gaurd on his but you will have to ask him where he got it as I have no idea who made it.

Cant remember if your rear suspension set up has a truss on it or not but its another thing to consider. Check racejunk .com for a used detroit for the axle.

Post some pics when you get around to making the tabs bro .... I start drooling and turn green with envy everytime you say water jet or plasma table!!!:bounce green:

I got a set of disc brake brackets I'll loan you to make a template out of to reproduce... they're for the big-bearing 9" Ebay also good source of used detroits. I've seen rebuilt race unit detroits for about 150-250. I said to hell with it and just spooled mine.

Make sure the housing is a big bearing and the 3rd isn't a WAR casting. My yoke guard is a Great Lakes Offroad but there is one that doesn't hang down as much that I like better. Although it would be more difficult to pull the d-shaft.

yeah its a big bearing axle.. and war casting? how do i find that out?

"WAR" will be cast on the side of the casting somewhere. The best is the nodular 3rd. There are some factory ones which are kind of hard to find. I actually have one of those on mine.

YJeXtreme
12-23-2010, 11:00 AM
Yea the WAR housings... some love 'em other hate 'em, they have a low nodular iron content. Mine actually broke driving out the pinion support bearing.... Factory nodular iron center-housings normally found in mid-late 60s mustangs, fairlanes w/ bigblocks. Hard to find an original though, and just as cheap to buy aftermarker for one... When you pull the center section from the housing it'll be samped with WAR on in the inside. They also have dual ribs on the casing but no "N" stamped in between the ribs... 72 should be a standard housing not WAR, but it coudl've been swapped at some point. I can't remember the production years off hand rightnow... if you got anymore questions let me know or post up pics... Fords are my thing ya know... lol

hadfield4wd
12-24-2010, 06:16 PM
go figure my factory Nodular case came on the F100 I pulled the axle from. In fact its the one with the large bearing races so I could put 35 spline axle in without machining. I didn't go looking for it. I'm just lucky. I didn't even realize I had this until the gears and lockers were installed or I would have gotten 35 spline off the bat.

Modding your own is pretty easy this guy did a great write up. Ive done a few of these and always add a lil dialectric over where the circuit was cut.

You can also just buy theTridon or Trico EP-26 flasher they have in the article it doesnt require any mods just plug and play.:2thumbsup: Make sure it has LED on the casing though.

In a 3 link (3 control arms and a panhard) you really have no binding issues. In a 4 link (4 control arms and a panhard) there inherantly will be binding. Putting more force on the joints, bolts, etc. On a double triangulated 4 link you'll have more torque steer. Honestly I wouldn't touch what you have. It works.

And quite frankly have you ever been denied an obstacle because your front suspension isn't working as best as it could be. I suspect not. I do have this problem but I have radius arms that unload when climbing so all my traction is on the rear. I'll put a 3 link in someday. I would fix the thing that is keeping you from clearing obstacles before I cut up a suspension that works. Plus it's not like you're sitting around with nothing to do.
