Going to Peaks of Otter this Saturday and the kids have asked if we can go for a ride up a mountain on the way home. Going in from Buchanan across to 460. They like the easy stuff more so then the OVH trails. They are into it mostly for the views and sights and little fear of hang ups. This seems like a good fit. I have recently moved up from NC and have not been on this road. Will be solo in a stock 06 4runner with BFG AT KOs. Seems most say its a fun easy ride for stockers. Anyone have more feedback, advise or been up there in the last week or two that can account for the roads condition? Wet Dry any creeks that my be an issue after rain or deep mud holes to look out for.
Thanks
Jon

You'll be fine. If you go after a rain, like it has been, it will be pretty rutted out in places and have a few muddy crossings from standing water, but a stock vehicle with an intelligent and patient driver shouldn't have any issues. Just take your time. I don't know where the OP got anything about it being a 2-3 hour trail. 1 at the very most.

Well we left Peaks today and decided we had time to run over Bobblets from the Buchanan Side. This was the first time the Kids and Wife have done anything off the paved road with me but I did not give them much choice. You can get some good views at times. The drive to the Parkway up was a breese. the washouts down the Montvale side were interesting. Slow going and I think I only scraped once in the Stock 4runner. I could see where I could have gotten into trouble on the wrong line on some of the ruts. Kids loved it Wife had fun and so did I. Great first time over the Gap.

Ran Boblett's Gap again with a friend of mine in his new YJ on Sunday and the Montvale side of it was pretty rutted out, and seems to be getting worse every time, but it was lots of fun. Would love to get some people together to clean it up in the near future. I know it's just a fire road, and not exactly a serious off road destination, but the scenery and nature is worth getting out there every once in a while. Made me sad to see trash, and vulgar tags and what not all over the parkway bridge and various rocks throughout the 'trail.' It's getting really overgrown since the last time I was out there. There's probably a hundred tires dumped on the side of the mountain. :(

i finally remmerb where this place is at. I grew up in montvale. We had another name for it back then i jsut dont remmerb what it was. Anyway ive taken an 80's model Jetta Deisel through there trying to blow it up and she went all the way through. If i remember right its more like a gravel driveway with a whol bunch of refrigerators thrown down the bank.

You said "remmerb" twice, as if it was intentional.. lol
It's a nice trail. Dirt, rocks, some gravel, some mud.. some ruts and interesting terrain. There were a few challenging places for his basically stock YJ until he was finally able to get it into 4-LO. Couldn't get it to engage and in 4-HI, it just wanted to spin the rear tires in the sandy part trying to get up on a little rock ledge. I basically idled through that section with no trouble. All in all it's a nice place to get away for a few hours without going far.

thanks for pointing that out. Ill try to care enough next time to spell it correctly. :thumb:
I wish we had more stock friendly trails like that. Lignite was a great one for stockers but bobblets will work just as well.
