looks like the register links are up and we can register. Gonna fill it out and take care of it on monday prolly. just .....waiting.... to make sure im not the only one lol.

JOE: at the meet and greet you talked about a gunenr riding with you. If you dont find anyone ill prolly jsut ride with you for the night runs caus ei plan on gettign hammered the whole time im there. As for the day runs ill be crawling my own rig unless youguys anty up a seat for the big shit.

ALSO: I have no riders at all. So if someone wants to come and ride and enjoy the jambo i need to know so i can put it on my registration cause you have to take a rig to get in. I have one seat open to a rider and you have until friday next week to let me know.

3rd: Call me weird but i think we should get a list of gear together we are gonna bring so we dont end up with 50 stoves and 30 lanterns. We will how ever need 5,000 coolers.

I will definitely be at this event as well. I try to run at least two big dogs events per year. I will be camping with friends from Northern VA that I go with every year but I would love to try to meet up with some of you all as well. We usually ride 7's and 8's if anyone is interested. GREAT WHEELIN! :2thumbsup: Heres a pic from Icebreakers this year:

Scrambled, that sounds good. I will keep an eye out for your green monster there. You should blend in plenty well with some of the bigger rigs that ride there. We are usually up around camp 3 somewhere which is up behind the shower areas and we usually have a pretty hodge podge group with Jeeps, yotas, a buggy or two and sometimes even a fullsize. For anyone that has not been to the Main Jambo before, it really is a great time aside from just the great wheelin and I encourage anyone who can come to mark it down. They have a mud bog sat. night which is great entertainment (although my jeep won't get within 100 feet of it) and a huge bon fire and photo slideshow from the previous days rides, etc. Always a great party to say the least! Just for kicks, heres the after photo of the one Brave soul in our group who decided to hit the mud bog last time (this rig was spotless beforehand by the way)

i will be leaving thursday night around 6 or so.4 wheeling starts 9 am friday morn.if anyone is coming up after feel free to ride with one another.you can register any time from now until you get there.i recommend signing up online before you go, however no paying customer will be turned away.
trails: we will all be riding together on 6+7s this more than enough to satisfy all your wild ideas!only fully caged and harnesed vehicles(shawn) will be allowed on bigger trails.iv seen 7 s make u want to shit yourself (little hill called pucker).this is gonna be awesome:2thumbsup:
after riding through people can move up or down later on, or the next day,we wont leave anyone behind!

Derek (RUKered) and I are planning on heading up together and would welcome anyone else who plans to leave around the same time. We plan on leaving no later than 3pm on Thursday to get up there in time to get a decent camp site. We also will most likely be running mostly 7's, mabye a 6 or two. I ran pennsyltuckian last year, which was originally a 7 that they have changed to an 8 because of the top part. It was definitely the toughest trail I have run there and is a definite locker F&R and 35" + tire territory. I have some other friends I will be riding with as well but I'm sure we will go on at least one or two trails with you all during the weekend. Anyone with at least one locker and 33's should be ok on 6's for sure. As far as 7's, some will be fine and others may be a bit much, depending on driver comfort level. I've run one of the harder 7's (Corrum Special) back when I had one locker and 33's and made it ok but it was pretty challenging. You have to remember most the guys in charge of rating the trails rock seriously built rigs or buggies so just keep that in mind :rotflmao5: Also, there is a chance I may be "trail guiding" on Friday and/or Saturday due to the fact our usual guides jeep is in pieces so he may just ride with me. Just keep an eye out for me Blue TJ on 35's and Derek's black TJ on 33's (see pic below) and anyone is welcome to ride in our group. Looking forward to seeing ya'll there!:2thumbsup:

i dont understand why anyone would wheel without a FE .... its required for most clubs including SC4WDA on ALL gatherings / trail runs.

you can get cheap $20 auto FEs at walmart ... i keep 2 in the TJ. cheap insurance for expensive rigs ... i think its safe to say most of us have slightly more than $40 in our rigs ...

rubican!
08-14-2009, 11:46 AM
i do not mind picking one up at all. I just could never think of a reason i would need one for my JK, but then after doing some thinking i relized that your FE isnt for you to use on yourslef its for you to use on your buddy's cause chances are when its time for it on yours your in the dirver seat trying to get out. So i will get one in hopes the guy in front of me and behind me has one to, saftey first

the trail rides being on a scale of 1-11, where would a trail like potts be classified??

VTCRAIG
08-19-2009, 09:38 AM
It's kind of tough to draw a direct comparison between potts and Big Dogs. As you will find at Big Dogs, the trails are not overly lengthy and you pretty much get into the "good stuff" right off the bat with little riding time before the real obstacles begin. This is unlike somewhere such as potts where you may have a couple miles of easy dirt trail with small rocks separating the "obstacle" areas. That being said, I would probably put the ledge bypass area at potts somewhere in tne neighborhood of a mid 5 (if going up hill) and, given how the stacks looked last weekend, I'd probably put them up in the high 5, low 6 range (again, going up and depending on line). The majority of the rest of the trail (sans ledge) would probably be between a 2-4. Obviously not an exact science but hopefully that gives you an idea.

I am still good to go. I just have some minor stuff to knock out on the jeep beforehand like front pads/rotors, install my rear riddler diff cover, and change t-case fluid. I'm getting real pumped though as this is my favorite 4wheeling event every year. I was also curious what time most planned to leave Roanoke. I think Derek and I are still planned to head out by 2-3pm on Thursday.

Also, to your question, evolution...based on what you have listed in your sig, you should be fine on all 6's and also most, if not all 7's. Some of the upper 7's can get a bit hairy in places if you only have one locker but I have run one of the hardest 7's with one locker and 33's before (although it was definitely tough) so I think with your 35's and locker you would be ok. I would suggest running a 6 first though just to get your feet wet since they tend to underrate their trails. I will try to keep an eye out for as many folks from the club's vehicles as I recognize and make a point to introduce myself. Can't wait! :wings:

Also, just an FYI for everyone coming up, I just checked the forecast and looks like a pretty good chance of rain Friday and mabye some Saturday so bring rain gear, covers/tops for jeeps, etc. We are planning on shooting for Camp 3 so we will look for the rest of you guys when we get up there. Definitely unfortunate, but it at least sounds like you'll be able to get in a couple days of wheeling, so not a total loss. :thumb:

I'm getting pumped for this - but the week is dragging by as a result. Heading out tonight to get a few things - fire extinguisher, recovery strap (which I've neglected for too long).

Aside from prep for the wheeling aspect, it's been so long since I've been camping that I'm sure I'll forget something.
