I talked with a ranger today about seeing what we could do as a club to get this trail reopened. I told her that we were ready take the next step and if not "adopt" it at least help maintain it. She said there was a lot of resource damage and people were running through the creeks there and the only way to protect it was to shut the gate. We will not know when its going to reopen until September sometime when they have the next meeting but she did say that the gates are not closed forever.
I told her we had strong membership and a lot of active members but what would be awesome is if you guys could post in here to kinda say hey i want to help, because if we get permission to adopt of help out with lignite we are gonna take it. Its not the most challenging trail out there but its a fun one and one that i don't want to see closed. If your willing to donate your time to help keep this trail open (cleanups, marking the trail, or whatever needs to be done) please post in this thread.
Thanks,
Matt

Isn't Patterson the same as Lignite?

Hey Matt....great job on getting this started. I always loved that trail for just a great Sunday drive to have fun and see the mountains. Count my son and myself in. Just need at least a weeks notice if we do this as a group. My work schedule has become crazy.

I have a few updates, and Matt can fill in anything I may have missed. Since I have not been there, I will try to describe as best I can.
A section of Lignite will be closed for good, the portion that runs along side the creek. However there was talk about a gate on the left and the trail running up the mnt will likely reopen. Some modifications and detours will need to be done.
There also maybe some new trails by Fenwick mines...
Mill Creek...gone
Hopefully this will make some sense...
