View Full Version : Luck was not on my side

Did a Potts run with VTCraig last Saturday, and did some damage that I can only laugh about now. It had to happen sooner or later.

The rocker damage was done at the tree root. I don't know what it was that day, but the difficult parts of the trail were a lot more difficult than usual.

I couldn't get lined up to take the tree root line - the rear end kept sliding on me. We were trying to get me far up enough the left side that I could back up and straighten out to take the normal line, but it just wasn't happening. I had to be strapped up, and there was no way around it, the pull dragged the right side into the "pointy" rock.

I wouldn't have been as bothered if it wasn't for the fact that I just placed an order for rocker guards on Friday, lol. (which are now sitting in my house)

We were on a schedule and had to turn around due to a big group ahead of us, so on the way out, I went down this section:

Should have known better because the last time I went down it, leaning into the bank for traction ripped my right rear flare loose. But with an already busted flare and damaged rocker, I figured what the hell.

I ripped the fender flare a little more, which I expected, but about 10 minutes later, I notice my right rear tire sounds odd. Turns out the same spot that destroyed my flare also ripped the valve stem out of my tire.

Nonetheless, I still had a great time and can't wait to go back once I get these babies installed.

On a side note - Sean - now that I have these, I'm no longer "scrambling" for Big Dogs armor.:harhar:

Rocker Knocker strikes again! I always run that between the rock and the tree but on 35's and locked/locked, I don't think it matters as much as it did when I was on 30's.

That rock is in a bad but challenging spot.

Nice. Those rocker guards should cover that.

Same rock gave me trouble in the old XJ.
Nice rocker gaurds BTW.

Nice sliders. You get to be the guy with rocker protection and damage! :thumb:

The tree side is getting very rough. The dirt has been spun out besides the tress, so you can no longer stradle the hole. Dinged my windsheild frame on my CJ Saturday.

Just go over it.:driving:

Thanks for the slider compliments. They're AtoZ's, which I've heard good things about, so I'm looking forward to the peace of mind having them on.

I agree it's been chewed up a lot since the last time I was there. I went through it before open/open on 3.07's, and the only problem I had was the shovel getting barely hung up. A small tug got me over.

This was my first run on 4.56's and a Detroit in the rear, so I was looking to cruise through, thinking I could power through the skid getting hung and slide on over. Problem was, I couldn't even get to the tree root. The dirt was so soft my rear end just kept sliding when I tried to get lined up. At least the sliders will cover it though.

Anyway, enough whining about it - once the protection is there I'll forget it happened.

Who does this to a vehicle he's paying $300 a month for? :2thumbsup::thumb:;)

See the problem is you cleaned it. You should have just left it dirty until we put the rocker guards on. Damage always looks worse after you've washed away the dirt that masked some of it :harhar:

Anyways, at least you popped the body damage cherry on something easy to cover up. Wanna trade me passenger fenders? :D

Why not? I practically have everything from your Jeep on mine except the VT stickers.

For your fender, might I recommend an oversized turn signal guard? It won't cover it, but the ugly will distract eyes from the dent. :D

:standing wave:

That picture brought a tear to my eye. But after the trip to potts i ran with JOE the other day i have faith in my rubi rock rails. Saved me in both spots. I hear it usualy takes a good one like that to get you in the frame where "its a jeep" but the more i wheel the more i love it.

yeah i have some rocker gaurds almost exactly like those from shrockworks. i bought them after i dropped my wrangler right on a rocker on a big boulder. i figured instead of fix the body i would just rustoleum the paint damage and bolt the gaurds on top :rotflmao5:

It's all down hill after the first dent.:2thumbsup:

That's basically what I'm going to do. Pry bar, hammer, and whatever else needs to be done to get it as straight as I can, then rattle-can it and bolt over it.

Having seen your rig several times on here, that's a scary thought man. :sSc_eek2: ;)
