np 231 transfer upgrades

im wanting to do something to my transfer case and wanted to see what everybodys opinion was on the mods that can be done.. dont have the money for a atlas but it would be great to have one thou.. looked a the teralow 4-1 kit but heard theres a lot of noise in it from the main output shaft in 2wheel hi.... i do havet to get a sye still thou..

my opinion a np231 isnt worth dropping 1k on a 4:1 kit... im looking at gettin a STaK Dana 300 early next year goes for about $2200 but is all new w/ 4:1s and 32spline outputs is shorter than np231 & helluva alot stronger

yeah ive looked at the stak 2 speed and mini box too.. i maybe putting the horse before the cart on this... i dont have a front locker yet, so a atlas or box wont do me much good right now, dont want to get one until i get my 44's f-r...waste of money.. but then again dont want to waste a bunch of money into the 231 with the sye and 2low kit for it either..when i want a 2 speed box or better... so here i am with smoke coming out of my ears wondering what i need to do next... maybe i just need to go home and drink about it some more...:drunkbuds:..lol

Agreed. You can get a used one that would be the way to go. Search on Pirate.

You can do a regular D300 and flip it with gears for around $1300. This is the most economical way to get a good tc cheap. Stock outputs will be fine for our power.
