I have a stock yota truck, and wanting to take it on some trails. Where can I take off road close to roanoke? Thanks, Danny

Nice to have another yota on the board. There isn't many places you can take it close to roanoke.

Bobcat in blacksburg was a fun place to go. If it is still open(i'm not sure) it is doable with a stock yota as long as you have some good tires and a heavy throttle to make it up root hill.

There are a lot of nice fire roads to go on. Broad run is fun with many creek crossings.

Bobcat is closed, the bottom side is privately owned.

A good stock trail would be Potts West.

But wherever you decide to go please stay on the marked trails and leave with more trash than you come in with.

I could drive there but I do not remember the turn by turn. Maybe someone will chime in with directions.

Take 311 to the top of Potts Mtn. There is a sign indicating the trail...

Josh, will that get you to the "double track" trail that we run on occasion? Or is there another turn to take, I can't remember.

That's the true "Pott's West" trail. It takes you down the mountain (where my center pin broke a year or two ago). It snakes around to Crowder Rd. Take a right on the Crowder and it dumps out in the switch back curve on 311 above the fish hatchery. The other trail head (label NF177-1) is about another mile up 311 on your right as 311 crests on the moutain. This trail dumps you out on the forest road (Potts Mtn Rd), just above the "Potts Mtn Jeep trail" trailhead.

I ran broad run today and the water is very high, I am glad I didn't hydrolock. I will try and post some pictures sometime. I found out that the JK doors aren't real good at keeping water out, the water was about 4 feet or so in some spots.

I did, they are both good. I think I might go to the hardware store tomorrow after class and get some rubber tube to raise them, I have been putting that off for too long.

If we get 7 or inches of snow it will be even better. Take a camera if you go, you should get some purtty pitures. :)
